Peppermint Iguana Radio Show #344 is a POST Tarantarti Party Special – a collection of tunes overheard on the various sound systems, stages and just heard around campfires on the campsite.
For a change, it doesn’t feature me waffling on in between records, it includes ‘vox pops’ I recorded from an assortment of festival goers I bumped into on the Sunday Afternoon. You will have to read through the play list to see why I chose each tune
Play list
- Tribal Toms – LOONALOOP Played both Green Gathering and Tarantarti Party. Unfortunately I didn’t realise they were playing on Thursday night, so missed them, but I loves them so have included this track.
- Regenerator – KING BUFFALO Erm, no connection with the theme of the play list, but they are currently embarking on a rare UK tour and me and me Megan are seeing them twice this week, in Bristol and London.
- Catch 22 – TARANTISM Taken from a brand spanking new three cd box set CD1 – Acoustic CD2 – Live CD3 – Studio. Rare and unreleased tracks going back as far as the early 90’s (digitally restored and remastered from cassette tapes). Brand new material full band and acoustic. And everything in between!
- Duddle Uddle – HEADMIX COLLECTIVE Lifted from brand new retrospective compilation CD by a band that shared many stages with Tarantism over the years
- HANNAH – The driving force behind the festival – find out why she put herself through it all
- Mum Does The Washing – JOSHUA IDEHEN Brilliant summing up of political ideology told through minimalist techno. Overheard playing between bands on the Solarscape Stage.
- Gallop (Jonesy Wales Remix) – NEON PUMPS Played as part of my DJ set on Thursday – from young welsh remixer Jonesy Wales (see what he did there?)
- Mikey – thoughts on being among friends
- Egyptian Reggae – PANCHO ACOSTA I’m not sure where I heard this, might have been Eyun Perkins in the Dub Tent, but might have been Chris Tofu in the Cabaret Tent
- Rock Attack – AKABUSH – Definitely from Eyun’s dj set in the awesome Dub/Dance tent with it’s mind boggling speaker ting.
- Torrie – ‘im from Surplus Festival and various lo-fi punk bands
- Whole Lotta Love (Dirty Funker Remix) – LED ZEPPELIN This was definitely Chris Tofu, I remember having a conversation with Elly Wild about it when sat on suitcases disguised as stools. So this one is for you Elly – and her friend who is Rich and Royal (In-jokes eh. Dontcha love em?).
- The Chain (Dom James & Odylic Force Remix) – FLEETWOOD MAC I think Chris Tofu also played this but it was part of my set I played on Thursday afternoon – when everyone was still putting tents up and not partying.
- Rich – apparently he listens to the show and buys shit I recommend. Cheers dude.
- Warrior – MIKKIM FT. SPEE I bumped into Rich, who is a fan of the radio show. He mentioned that he discovered this band through me playing them about five years ago – and now they have a new album out. Cheers Rich.
- John Hale – Not a regular festival goer these days, but loved every minute of it.
- Fatman – REGIME I played this in my set just before the Belly Dancing workshop on Thursday. It’s about owning your body.
- Becky and Keely – Owners of the Rainbow Mobile Gay Bar who forced us to drink cocktails all weekend
- Stonewall Part One – DUBAMIX Definitly had this ‘in the box’ for my set in the cabaret tent, but didn’t get around to playing it. Dedicated to the Rainbow Bar team.
- Mad Hattie – who camped next to us with her gang and loaned us their guard dog Rebok to keep an eye on out campervans
- Ravin Raven – THE INEXPLICABLES Played this in my DJ set. A bouncy tune about raving and festivals. There should be a law making playing it compulsory at all festivals.
- Andy and Chud – Festival ‘veterans’ camped next to us for the weekend
- Rooftop Anarchy – THE TOFU LOVE FROGS again played it in my Thursday set, cos Chris Tofu an Ade from the legendary (but now defunct) Tofu Love Frogs were in the hood
- Rhiannon – on being in Tarantism and skipping music lessons so Skinner could teach her Lannagans Ball
- Lannagans Ball – TARANTISM had a rather emotional moment when original Tarantism member Skinner got up on stage to play Bodhran with the band to perform this little beauty.
- Garry Feral – takes his hat off to Hannah – if anyone knows how hard it is to put on a grassroots festival, Garry Does
- Bankrobber – THE ZIPHEADS last tune I played in my DJ set, after the Drag Queen karaoke and before the first live artist of the weekend.
- Ya Bin Dun – THE BIG – Another stomper from me set
- Adrian – took time out from losing Stella’s deckchair to speak to us
- The Sickbed Of Cúchulainn – THE POGUES part of my set on Thursday – a tribute to a band that had a massive influence on the festival scene, inspiring loads of people to start mixing punk and folk
- Stella – stood up to talk to us cos Aidrian lost her chair
- Chasing The Mule – VIKING GROOVES played at the opening of my dj set as usual – for it’s Clint vibes
- Pixy – took time out from making string out of dried nettles
- Kinda Dukish – DJ FARRAPO – another floor filler from me opening DJ set
- Kieth – I think he enjoyed himself
- Warble Tone – LUKE SANGER tune I overheard on my way to the ‘long drops’ on Sunday morning. Hasts of the the guys with the big fuck off soundsystem, you played some great tunes (although I’m glad I wasn’t camped next to you)
- Fight You – CHRIS LIBERATOR AND SAM DFL going out to Carmel Reynolds of Dogshite. Had a great catchup during the Tarantism set. Chris Liberator is Carmel’s other half and played in the Dub/Dance Tent, but we were watching the Tarantism Acoustic Disco at the same time. All proceeds from this tune go to Palestinian children’s charities
- Taffy Twp – sums it up
So there ya go, a sonic postcard from Tarantarti Party 2025.
