Peppermint Iguana Radio Show #338 is a Macedonian / Welsh sonic cultural exchange thing, showcasing the Naked Mountain Collective label from Macedonia, and just a few of our favourite current Welsh bands.
We recently had the honour of spending some time in the company of members of the Naked Mountain Collective, based in Skopje. They have a strong DIY ethic and are doing fantastic work supporting young grassroots bands in Macedonia. The show features a number of tracks that have been released on their label and extracts from an interview I did with the guys.
If you check the play list, I have included links so you can follow up any of the bands that catch your ear. As I type, I’m in the process of transcribing the interview which will appear on the website in the next few weeks.
There are also some of my favourite current young Welsh bands on the play list. This is partly to celebrate the music of Wales, to reflect on highlights of the Laughanre weekend festival, and to look forward to the forthcoming All Roads Festival. Also, it is to give any Macedonian listeners a peek at what is going on in Wales at the moment.
And of course, some of the best of the new releases from around the world.
I feel compelled to tell you that it’s not Richard Burton on the track ‘Welsh Not’, as I state in the show, it is Philip Madoc. Also, apologies to my new Balkan friends for my crimes against the pronunciation of the Macedonian language on the show.
