LISTEN LIVE: Peppermint Iguana Radio 178 – Festival mayhem again

Festival season is now at that head spinning mind numbing stage where there are just too many gigs to be able to go to with one body.

With this show we will try to make sense of some of what is coming up, with Landed (again), Griffstock, Not the End of the World, Beautiful Days, Green Man and more. All mixed up with our usual selection of new releases.

Buckle up brothers and sisters, we’re not in Kansas anymore.

Tune in to www.dapperfm.co.uk from 8pm Tuesday 14th August

As ususal, high five to our sponsors, www.unisoncwmtaflocalgov.wales

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 177 – Landed (part one) and Boom Town preview

Another one of our festival preview shows. Mainly Landed festival (part one) and a bit of Boomtown.

When I were a boy there were not many legitimate festivals around. The hardest decision we had to make was at Glastonbury, because so many good bands were on at the same time.

Fast forward to today, and not only are bands clashing but festivals are clashing. And in august there are four or five decent festivals on each weekend.

For this show we focused on Landed, the best in-land festival in Wales, and Boomtown – an event that has ambitions to be better than Glastonbury.

We will also had a smidgen of Green gathering, following on from our show dedicated to the festival last week.

LISTEN LIVE: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 177 – Landed Festival Preview innit.

August, the month when the festival season gets up a full head of steam and slams into top gear. We have already done our Green Gathering Special, so this week expect lots of tunes from and talk about the mighty Landed festival in Rhayader.

http://www.landedfestival.co.uk/

No doubt we will throw in a few new releases and wedge in a bit of Boomtown whilst we are at it.

Tune in to www.dapperfm.co.uk from 8pm Tuesday 31st July.

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 176 Green Gathering Special with the boy Tom Fowler

With the Green Gathering is around the corner, we thought we might as well invite Tom Fowler around to do a special show.

He was actually well behaved, he did not swear much and he even played some music from bands playing the festival

He also played a few that are not.

LISTEN LIVE: Green Gathering preview with the boy Tom Fowler

Peppermint Iguana are squeezing in an extra show on Tuesday 24th July, a Green Gathering Special with our man Tom Fowler dropping in a guest host.

Tom will be spinning some of his recent sonic discoveries – and he will be picking out his recommendations for the best of the line-up of the Green Gathering. No doubt, we will also be chatting about the campaigns area.

Visit Dapper FM website from 8pm on the 24th August.

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana # 175. Toldpuddle, Out West and all that jazz

The festival season is now well and truly in third gear and picking up speed. Once upon a time in the west is in our rear view mirror and Tolpuddle is around the next bend.

So this show featured tales of scorching summer weekend in Wiltshire and a preview of the annual union get together in Dorset.

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 174 – Once Upon a Time in the West Special 03/07/18

With Once Upon a Time in the West Festival around the corner, we thought it would be rude to not dedicate a significant slice of our most recent show to bands playing the event. So we did.

We also sung happy birthday to the NHS, told The Donald what we thought of him and had our own mini sonic world cup thing going on.

We were going head to head with England v Columbia, so one or two of you may have missed the show going out live. Fear not, the whole thing, mono-warts and all (we lost one of the channels for a bit at the start of the show), is here for you to listen to again below.

LISTEN AGAIN: Iguana Radio # 172 West Wales Vibrations

Last weekend the iguana crew spent many lazy hours looking out over Cardigan Bay, whilst soaking up some festival vibrations.

And it was as we looked out over the water, we came up with a cunning plan. A radio show made up entirely of bands we have seen in west Wales over the years.

Some were from last weekend, whilst some are from gigs going back to the last century.

LISTEN LIVE: Peppermint Iguana Radio Rides Again – Tuesday 1st May

YAY – WE ARE BACK!

After being off air for a month, Dapper FM is now plotted up in its new home, Jacs Live Music Venue in Aberdare.

The computers are installed, the CD decks are plumbed in and the microphones have been re-wired. In fact, we took the opportunity to give all the hardware a bit of a service whilst we were at it. So we should be cooking on gas from here on in. Continue reading LISTEN LIVE: Peppermint Iguana Radio Rides Again – Tuesday 1st May

Dapper on the Run

Dapper FM is on the move. After ten years in the Cana Centre Penywaun, we are now moving to a purpose built studio in the grounds of Jacs Live Music Venue, in the heart of Aberdare.

The last broadcast from the Cana will be the Something Else for the Weekend Show, from 9am till noon o’clock on 24th March 2018.

We aim to be up and running again by Easter, but that will depend on all the bits fitting together after being dismantled, dragged down to Aberdare and being reassembled in our new home.

This basically means the next Peppermint Iguana Radio show will not be till April – hopefully the 10th.

Of course, you can always use this break as a chance to catch up with past shows.

We would like to thank all who have listened to us over the last six and a bit years and we hope we can provide a new and improved service. We are a little bit excited!

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 168 – Last Train from Cana Central

Our most recent show was a bit of a landmark, being the last show before the station moves to new home.

Six and a half years on from our first broadcast, we blasted out a three hour special, to commemorate our last live broadcast from the studio based in the Cana Centre, Penywaun.

To listen to the show again, check out the mixycloud thing below.

Don’t worry, we will be back broadcasting from our new studio on April 10th.

Peppermint Iguana Radio # 177 – Three Dub Plates outside Dapper FM, Penywaun

On Tuesday 27th February, we braved the cold of the ‘Breeze from the Seas’ to bring you another hot episode of the Peppermint Iguana Radio Show.

Then we had to warm the car up for ten minutes to defrost the brakes which had frozen on. I tell you what dudes, it’s two coats colder up in that Penywaun.

Lisa bribes her way into Clint’s heart tog et on the radio

For this week’s radio show we looked back on the days when we used to put on gigs on a regular basis.

The peppermint Princess, Lisa Dreads, joined us in the studio for the night. She was shy, she was losing her voice, but she still managed to be louder than our microphones could handle.

Back in the day we just put gigs on. It was what we did. But going back through the list we can safely say we put some pretty tidy bands on, even if we say so ourselves.

And we are getting back into it – kicking off with a gig Le Pub – with the awesome Tarantism Folk Disco headlining

LISTEN LIVE: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 164 with Mel and Magnus of Tarantism in the studio

Mel and Magnus doing their folk disco thang at the Green Gathering 2016

You may have heard the Peppermint Iguana crew are getting back into promoting after a break of 14 years. First up, we are teaming up with the Green Gathering Campaigns Crew to put on a gig in Le Pub on the 10th February with a shed load of really cool artists, including the amazing Tarantism Folk Disco to finish the night off.

‘What be a folk disco?’ I hear you all you cry. Well, rest assured, it’s not a bloke in an Aron jumper playing Stealer’s Wheel records. It is Mel and Magnus from that Tarantism playing disco music in a folk style.

‘Who are Mel and Magnus?’ I hear less of you cry. For those of you not cool enough to know, Mel and Magnus are the Posh and Becks of the celtic-ska-punk-funk-dance scene and have been at the core of legendary festival band Tarantism for over twenty years now. In addition they gig as a duo, Magnus wears capes on stage with Hawkwind and as well as doing cheesy discos, Mel makes the finest vegan cheese this side of Vegania.

Still want to know more? Fear not, in the run up to our gig, Mel and Magnus are dropping into the Dapper FM studio to take over the Peppermint Iguana Radio show.

You can expect some of their own tunes, some unreleased tunes by other bands recorded in their Rockaway Studios – and no doubt many more treats for your heads hearts and feets.

We also paid tribute to fallen stars, hot pre-releases and a preview of our gig in Le Pub on 10th February. Mel and Magnus of that Tarantism Folk Disco, who be playing that gig, will be dropping in to take over our next show on 30th January.

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 160: Mega three hour DIY Underground showcase thingy

Sunday lunch DIY underground style – with The Mob

To help Dapper FM celebrate ten years on air, on 5th December we embarked on a three hour radio odyssey showcasing as many of our mates as we could.

No golden oldies or hidden gems just mates from the DIY underground. It was impossible to fit all of our mates on, so apologies for those that missed out. However, a few of those missing from the list can be found on our round up of 2017 show and there will be more on our festive knees up on 19th December.

Putting the play list together was quite humbling. We feel privileged to count so many damn fine creative musicians in our extended Iguana family. Our hats off to you all.

So, if you want to hear the show again (and you do, trust us) check out the mixycloud thang below

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 159: Unexpected show in the Dapper FM area

This ‘Selected highlights of 2017’ show is a bit unique, having been broadcast not once, but twice!

“How can that be?” we hear you cry. Well, it was first broadcast on Tuesday 28th November, but after the show finished we managed to break the station and loose the recording. Normally we would just shrug our shoulders and move on. But this was a reflection on some of the year’s best choonage with a rather splendid play list. So we decided to do the show again with the same play list.

Find out if it was worth the effort by checking out the cloudcast below. Continue reading LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 159: Unexpected show in the Dapper FM area

LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 158 – Mind your head with CAPTAIN PARANOID

Just because you are paranoid it does not mean they are not out to get you

On 21st November the legend that is Captain Paranoid joined Peppermint Iguana in the studio for a very special radio show.

Pick a few songs we said. The next thing we knew we had a massive thirty eight track play list and he could not make up his mind which ones to loose. He was even arguing with musicians he has collaborated with over which version of his own songs to play.

We were well over an hour into the show before we finally worked out what the play list was going to look like. But hey, this is what happens when working with people who are all consumed by music and are filled with passion and emotion. It was memorable. To say the least.

To listen to the show again click on the cloudcast below – and below that is what we think the play list was – even now it is hard to keep up with what went on!
