GROWN UP: Keith Allen (autobiography)

keith allen grown up

Anyone that has spent a life time working nine to five and paying into a pension will read Keith Allen’s autobiography, Grown Up, and be forced to consider how mundane and safe their life is.

Keith is famous, although famous for what we are not really sure. He has been a comedian an actor, a pop star, columnist, director and, well, a hell raiser.

Born into a naval family, staying in one place for long has never been part of his makeup. Staying in one relationship or staying in one job haven’t really been big features either. Continue reading GROWN UP: Keith Allen (autobiography)

PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTTING: New album to be previewed by two gigs in Ebbw Vale

psb ebbw valePublic Service Broadcasting are to release their third album this summer and will be previewing it with two low key shows in Ebbw Vale, South Wales.

The following statement has been released by the band today:

Our third album is called Every Valley and is a story of industrial decline. It’s centred around coal mining in the UK, and in South Wales in particular, but it’s a story that’s been repeated across the western world and which has particular resonance in today’s political climate. LISTEN LIVE: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 142 – Merthyr Rising Special

merthyr rising coverThe Merthyr Rising Festival will be back for a fourth year between the 22nd and 28th May 2017. Peppermint Iguana has invited the people behind the festival in to chat with us for a preview of the events on our show on March 28th 2017.

The show will feature music from some of the bands performing this year and a chat about the films, debates and art that will be part of the diverse line up of this event.

To listen to the show live, go to www.dapperfm.co.uk from 8pm till 10pm on Tuesday 28th March

The event marks the 1831 workers uprising. Throughout May 1831 the coal miners and others who worked for William Crawshay took to the streets of Merthyr Tydfil, calling for reform, protesting against the lowering of their wages and general unemployment. Gradually the protest spread to nearby industrial towns and villages and by the end of May the whole area was in rebellion, and it is believed that for the first time the red flag of revolution was flown as a symbol of workers’ revolt.

The event, now in its fourth year, is growing to become a major feature on the calendar of the labour movement, alongside Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and the Durham Miners Gala. It takes place between the 22nd and 28th May 2017, climaxing in a three day music event in the town centre over the bank holiday weekend.
The event will include political debates, film screenings, art, theater and music. Headliners for the event are The Alabama Three and The Stereo MCs. There will also be a wide range of local beers and food available.

Merthyr Rising Festival and the Peppermint Iguana Radio Show are sponsored by UNISON, the union for public service groovers

DON’T TAKE ME HOME (2017)

dont take me homeIn 2016, Wales qualified for the finals of a major football tournament for the first time in fifty eight years. Needless to say the whole thing became a bit special. Don’t Take Me Home is the story of that balmy, barmy summer in France.

For a few short weeks, the welsh conquered France, in more ways than one. For the followers of more successful teams, this sort of trip is a regular fixture in the calendar. But with this trip being almost six decades in the making, this was a pilgrimage welsh fans had been waiting a lifetime for.

france 2016 (2)

Tens of thousands of ‘Chrissy Coleman’s Barmy Army’ headed to France, utilising planes, trains and automobiles. Some headed out for the duration, some travelled back and fore for each game. Some flew out in luxury, whilst others spent dozens of tortuous hours in busses and cars. Some travelled direct, whilst others took diversions via Spain and Belgium to save money. Some stayed in tents, whilst others lived it up in hotels. Continue reading DON’T TAKE ME HOME (2017)
