LISTEN LIVE: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 129 – Clint goes solo

DJ-Han-SoloAnd then there was one – Yes, Ginger John is now officially gone, but Clint is still flying the DIY flag and keeping the show on the road. The beat, as they say, goes on.

Now we can really get stuck into Clint’s extensive back catalogue of underground music from the last half decade and can feature more of those hot new releases and demos.

Without the ginger one constantly interrupting we will have time to get stuck into some proper experimental psychedelic funky dubiness and will be able to throw in more of those 12” mixes and album tracks that John used to whinge about.

Oh – and by coincidence, there has been a bit of a change in the sponsor department. Rhondda Cynon Taff UNISON, is no more, they have merged with Merthyr Tydfil UNISON and are now going by the name of Cwm Taf Local Government UNISON.

To listen live, go to www.dapperfm.co.uk from 8pm (UK Time) on Tuesday 11th October 2016

john and don

There were two themes running through show 127

As we rapidly approach five years of being on air, Ginger (almost) Gone has decided to hang up his headphones. Show 128, our fifth birthday, will be his last show. So for the last two shows he will be revisiting some of his favourite tunes that he has spun in the last half decade, including PAIN, Dr Alimontado and Ty karim.

He also paid tribute to ska legend Prince Buster who went to the great dancehall in the sky on 8th September.

Clint is not going anywhere though and will continue to bring you the best of the underground. This week his play was heavily loaded with bands playing the last festival of the season, Something Else in the Dean, which takes place in the forest of dean over 23/24/25 September.

He also paid tribute to Graham Wiggins, AKA Dr Didg, who sadly passed away in his sleep on 7th September

The Atrist Formerly Known as Ginger John to step down from Peppermint Iguana Radio Show

Ginger John - does not even know what the radio website is called
Ginger John – after five years he still does not even know what the radio show website is called

The Artist Formerly Known as Ginger John has today announced that he is stepping down from his position of back bench internet radio DJ. His final show will be broadcast live on 27th September 2016, almost five years to the day since the airing of the first ever Peppermint Iguana Radio show.

David Cameron thought he was being clever by distracting the nation from the debate about grammar schools by announcing his retirement (we thought he fucked off weeks ago!). But his announcement was itself trumped by former grammar school boy Silver John announcing his own retirement. For our next show we will be previewing Fordham Park Urban Free, Common Ground and forthcoming gigs from the likes of Toots and the Maytals, Jesus and Mary Chain, and the Petrol Girls.

Clint will have some brand spanking new releases and John will probably just wander around his living room and pick up random bits of vinyl off the floor and rip them to CD. But hey, some of them will be fabulous.

Elvis Presley, cited by many as the father of rock and roll left the building on 16th August 1977, whilst Robert Johnson, who sold his soul to the devil and became the granddaddy of rock and roll went to the great gig in the sky on 16th August 1938

And over the weekend of 15/16/17 August 1969 a little farm outside of New York hosted the Woodstock festival which immediately stamped its name in rock and roll history

LISTEN AGAIN – Peppermint Iguana Radio tribute to Steve Will

Steve and his wife Lesley
Steve and his wife Lesley

On 24th May, Peppermint Iguana Radio paid tribute to our mate Steve Will, who sadly passed away earlier this month. Below you will find a cloud cast of the show to listen again.

At times like this it is always difficult to know what to say or do. People will always struggle to come to terms with someone passing too early. Everyone will have their own way of dealing with things.

Here at Peppermint Iguana we do a radio show. So we did a show for Steve. That’s what we do. It won’t rewind the hands of time and it won’t bring Steve back. But it has helped us down the road of coming to terms with things and hopefully will play a part in the healing for others.

Steve was as passionate about music as we are. The show features some of the songs he introduced us to and some of the songs we shared with him. It also shares a handful of memories that will live with us forever.

We hope that the show will bring comfort to those that knew him and provide an insight into who Steve was to those that did not know him. We think it stands up in its own right alongside all of our other shows – entertaining and hopefully informative. Judge for yourselves.

Peppermint Iguana Radio 118 – A tribute to Steve Will – 24/05/16

steve
Steve – at home on the dancefloor in the middle of the night, or just out walking the dog

On 24th May, Peppermint Iguana pays tribute to Steve Williams, who sadly went on to the great dancefloor in the sky recently. Steve touched many of us in many ways. He was an uncle, a friend, a mentor and – in some ways – a role model.

Well known on the Northern Soul All-nighter scene, on the terraces of Cardiff City and loved by all who knew him, Steve was an avid music lover that taught us all a few things in his time. Never sticking to what he knew, Steve was always one for checking out new sounds.

This show will pay tribute to Steve by playing some of the music he loved and some of the music we love that reminds us of him. Expect Northern Soul and Ska. But also expect punk and a few other little surprises.

We will also feature a few new hot releases – cos that is what Steve would have wanted – for us to keep on keeping on.

To listen live go to www.dapperfm.co.uk from 8pm till just after 10pm on Tuesday 24th May.

Wales fans waiting for plane home from Krakow - after watching Wales lose to Poland (yes, the game was in Warsaw, don't ask!)
Wales fans waiting for plane home from Krakow – after watching Wales lose to Poland (yes, the game was in Warsaw, don’t ask!)

With Wales’ first major football tournament since 1958 looming, on 22nd May 2016 Peppermint Iguana dips its toes into new territory. We will be presenting a strictly spoken word show, featuring special guests Paul Corkery and Neil Dymock, of the Football Supporters Federation Cymru.

We will be talking about the arrangements for fans heading to France for the tournament and looking back at some memorable moments from past away trips.

Paul has already been out to check out the stadiums and the arrangements for the games in France, so is perfectly placed to tell us all we need to know. Expect all the information you will need about the grounds, fanzones and security.

Neil Dymock will also be joinging us in the studio. Neil clocked up 18 years worth of aways without missing a game, is a gol trustee, editor of Dragon Has Landed fanzine and been manager of the supporters team for 13 years

We will also be looking back at previous trips away following the ‘sleeping dragon’, reminding Corky of things he wants to forget and straighten him out when he strays from the truth.

You can listen live on Sunday 22nd May from 5pm to 7pm GMT. Feel free to leave questions on our Facebook event page for the gang.
If we do not end up incriminating ourselves on the show, we will then make it available as a downloadable podcast for you to listen to at your own inconvenience.

The show will be broadcast live on www.dapperfm.co.uk and you can listen anywhere in the world that has an internet connection

Wales fans waiting for plane home from Krakow – after watching Wales lose to Poland (yes, the game was in Warsaw, don’t ask!)

With Wales’ first major football tournament since 1958 looming, on 17th May 2016 Peppermint Iguana dips its toes into new territory. We will be presenting a strictly spoken word show, featuring special guest Paul Corkery, of the Football Supporters Federation Cymru.

You can also expect anecdotes from past trips that will make you want to laugh, cry and spill your beer at the same time.

To liven things up we will have some special guests that also have a few away games following the sleeping dragon under their belts. They will be on hand to remind Corky of things he wants to forget and straighten him out when he strays from the truth.

You can listen live on Tuesday 17th May 2016 between 8pm and 10pm.

Peppermint Iguana Radio is sponsored by Rhondda Cynon Taff UNISON, the union for public service footy fans.

PEPPERMINT IGUANA RADIO # 117 LIVE – 26/04/16

THE FESTIVAL HAS LANDED

Landed after dark
Landed after dark

The daffodils may be still in bloom and the roads may still getting gritted at night, but the festival season is already underway and a few hardy souls have already had their sleeping bags out of mothballs. But Beltane is almost upon us and with it the 2016 festival season will be kicking off properly.

Over the weekend of 29th April to 1st May the hills will be alive to the sound of Landed Festival. Snuggled away in the heart of Mid Wales (Between Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader) Landed is one of Wales best kept secrets, mixing live music, DJs, theatre, crafts, healing and stalls, all surrounded by some of the most picturesque scenery in the UK.

For the next Peppermint Iguana radio show, on 26th April, we scoop up a sample of the bands playing Landed to whet your appetite. As yet we have not finalised the play list but we have plenty to choose from. Will it be the Goa Trance of Zub Zub, the Anarcho Folk Punk of Kilnaboy or the Ska of the Chalk Outlines? All will be revealed on the night.

We will also have some hot new tunes from the likes of Dub War and Department S and we mark the 40th Anniversary of the Ramones seminal first album.

For all this much more, log on to www.dapperfm.co.uk from 8pm on 26th April.

PAIN and Howard Marks - Let me Grow More Weed
PAIN and Howard Marks – Let me Grow More Weed

Mother festival is wiping the sleep out of her eyes, having a bit of a stretch and putting the kettle on for a cup of chai. To provide a sound track to her wake up, on 12th April 2016 Peppermint Iguana Radio will be featuring some of the bands playing the Something Else Solar Warm Up Party and All Tomorrow’s Parties.

So you can expect Muddy Summers, Doozer McDooze and the Firepit Collective to show up on the play list.

Not only is Mother Festival walking up, but the Peppermint Iguana Beehive is also coming to life, so expect lots of bee related tunes from the likes of –erm – TheBees, The Techniques and two different bands called the Supremes.

Sadly, as we were putting the finishing touches to the play list, we heard the news that on 10th April 2016 Mr Nice, AKA, Howard Marks shuffled off his mortal coil, 21 years to the day after being released from prison. Howard was about as rock and roll as it is possible to be, without actually being a rock and roller. He did dabble with the odd collaboration though, and we will be featuring a few of those throughout the show.

To hear all of this, and more, live go to www.dapperfm.co.uk from 8pm on Tuesday 12th April.

As usual, high five to our sponsors, Rhondda Cynon Taff UNISON, the union for public sector groovers.
