LISTEN AGAIN: Peppermint Iguana Radio # 204: Scott Lavender talks Blackwood Miners and beyond.

On 3rd December we had another special play list take over, Scott lavender joined us for two and a bit hours.

Who is he? You may well ask.

Well, we’ll tell you. Back in the 1990s the valleys were a cultural backwater still stuck in the 1980s, then along came Blackwood Miners Institute, and suddenly you did not need to travel to Cardiff to catch a half decent band. We could go to gigs and walk home. (Yes, city dwelling readers, that does not sound like a big deal, but in the valleys it is a massive deal)

Scott was the driving force behind putting the ‘Stute on the map, not only for the valleys,  but the UK. He also helped Peppermint Iguana put on our early gigs in thd ‘Stute.

This also coincided with a period of intense creative blossoming in Wales, with ‘Cwl Cymru’ making waves in the big boy’s charts.

But after a few years Scott moved on to bigger things, promoting gigs in Europe – working with nothing  short of  rock royalty.

This was a show of two halves. First we reminisced about the south wales scene back in the 1990s, then we got to chat about the pros and cons of promoting the biggest names in rock on European stages.

The play list was a bit more mainstream that our usual shows, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. To listen again, check out the cloudcast below
